Privacy and cookie policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
This policy explains what information UK Storms (ukstorms.co.uk) collects when you use the site, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have a question or want to use any of your rights, contact us.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
We show ads from Google AdSense to pay for running the site. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see them, measure their performance and, if you agree, personalise them based on your visits to this and other websites.
- Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's consent message before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time: .
- You can turn off personalised ads from Google at Google Ad Settings.
- You can opt out of personalised ads from other participating companies at Your Online Choices.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Analytics
We use Umami to see which pages are useful and how people find the site. It counts page views without cookies and doesn't identify you.
Storm alert sign-ups
If you sign up for storm alerts, we keep your email address so we can email you when a storm is named or its dates change. Depending on where you signed up, your address is stored by our email provider, Resend, or in our own database, and we may send you an email to confirm your sign-up first. Every alert includes a link to unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
Contact form
When you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to us through Resend so we can reply. We don't use them for anything else.
Cookies and browser storage
- Advertising cookies set by Google and its partners, as described above, subject to your consent choices.
- Consent cookies that remember your privacy choices.
- Site preferences kept in your browser, such as whether you've already seen the storm alerts pop-up.
You can delete cookies and site data at any time in your browser settings.
Other services on our pages
Some pages load maps and data from other services, including Windy (weather maps), OpenStreetMap (map tiles) and unpkg (map software). These services receive your IP address when your browser loads their content. Storm warnings come from the Met Office's public feed and news headlines from GNews; neither receives any information about you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, or to stop using it. Contact us to make a request. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
