The Met Office named Storm Boelo on 22 October 2026, the second named storm of the season. It is a separate low-pressure system from Storm Austen. The first yellow warnings were upgraded, and an amber wind warning runs from 21:00 on Saturday 24 October to 21:00 on Sunday 25 October. It covers mainland Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland and the far north of England. Wider yellow warnings cover more of England, north Wales and all of Northern Ireland. The Met Office forecast gusts of 60–70mph across the amber area and up to 80mph on exposed coasts.
Recorded gusts include 84mph at Machrihanish (Argyll and Bute), 83mph in Snowdonia, 82mph on Tiree and 81mph at Port Ellen, Islay (Met Office figures, as reported by the press). On Sunday morning the Energy Networks Association said about 82,600 properties were still without power and 344,900 had been reconnected. More than 30,000 of those still cut off were in Scotland. Largs was badly flooded. Fallen trees closed the A83 at Inveraray and the A78 at Largs. Parts of Scotland's railway were shut, and the Preston–Blackpool North line was blocked by flooding. Hundreds of flights were delayed or cancelled at airports including Dublin, Heathrow, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Edinburgh Castle closed, and events in Liverpool and London were cancelled.
