Summary
Storm Eunice was named by the Met Office on 14 February 2022 and hit on 18 February 2022. It was the most severe and damaging storm to affect England and Wales since February 2014. The Met Office issued two red wind warnings, one for south-west England and south Wales and one for London and the south-east, the first red wind warning ever to cover London. A gust of 122mph at Needles Old Battery, Isle of Wight, set a new England record, and Isle of Portland recorded 90mph. Three people died in the UK and one in Ireland, all from falling trees or debris. More than a million homes lost power, and several hundred UK flights were cancelled. The Port of Dover closed temporarily, and the Humber Bridge and both Severn bridges closed for the first time in their history. Sources: Met Office storm report; BBC News.
